OUR STORIES: VOLUNTEERS
SOCIAL SUPERMARKET
"When I started volunteering for Feeding Coventry, Covid had started, and a lot of families had no (or at least very little) income...
I felt a moral obligation to try and help others. I grew up knowing how hunger felt and wanted to help parents feed their children and themselves.
The social supermarket gave me a sense of purpose... I used to go home and wonder how certain people were coping and why they had not visited that day.
I genuinely feel that I got more from helping others that at any other time of my life.”
COMMUNITY CENTRE
“I first came to Feeding Coventry in March 2020 during the Covid lockdown. I wanted to support other colleagues and friends. Volunteering during the Covid lockdown provided me with a much-needed routine. It was a regular activity."

“I started volunteering after finishing school to learn to new skills. I have enjoyed my time here. Volunteering here has helped my confidence with others – speaking with other volunteers and customers, also staff. I felt it gave me a better sense of responsibility...”
COMMUNITY KITCHEN
“I started visiting the centre two years ago. I needed support and to meet new people. I was struggling emotionally with my mental health and financial difficulties.
I found out about Feeding Coventry though a friend who was a member of the social supermarket. It’s a friendly and welcoming environment. I feel much more confident.
I love to visit the centre, and I’ve now even become a volunteer! I feel more confident. We’re a fantastic team! I’m hoping to do some online training in the future to advance my skills on food hygiene.”
